This family's problems -- and the problems of too many families like them -- began many years ago when the U.S. refused -- refused -- to do anything to stop the influx of illegal aliens into this country.
The problem is multiplying daily by who knows how many hundreds. Why? Because the U.S. government refuses -- absolutely refuses -- to do anything about the problem of millions of illegal aliens already here or the ones attempting to get here.
We have thrown U.S. Border Patrol Agents in prison for attempting to do what? Patrol our borders and keep this country safe from illegal aliens who may be carrying anything from handguns to bedbugs to explosives to illegal drugs or to children in utero.
I certainly do not know the answer to the Thorsteds' problems.
However, I do know one thing: the two U.S. Border Patrol Agents who were just flung into the slammer for doing not much more than the jobs they were being paid to do should be pardoned and released immediately. This is not a process that should take months or years. It is a process that could and should be undertaken today.
